Attesting Your Scorecard: The Buddy System for Golf!

Attesting your scorecard is something New Members do when joining LOLGC and All Members do when playing in tournaments. What is it? It's a way to confirm that the scores recorded for a player are accurate. Think of it as being each other's golf buddies and accountability partners!

New Member Establishment

Even if you're established at another club, you'll need to become LOLGC established. Why? Each course has different rules and we want to ensure everyone's on an even playing field.

What It Means? An established LOLGC member will mentor you on pace of play, golf etiquette, and our specific course rules.

How to Get Established: Play five rounds with any established member who will keep track of your score. Here's what's different during establishment:

  • Count every stroke (unlike regular play where you max out at 9 per hole)

  • Can happen anytime during the season (except scrambles)

  • Must be on club play days (Wednesday or Thursday)

  • Play with different established members—you don't need the same scorer each time

After Each Round: Submit your scorecard to the LOPGC reception desk (we have an envelope onsite). When you log your round in LOLGC Scores and Stats, check "yes" for establishment rounds so we can track your progress.

How to Attest a Scorecard?

Step 1: Find Your Scoring Partner Swap scorecards with someone in your foursome. You'll be keeping score for each other—yes, at the same time! You'll record their scores, and they'll record yours.

Step 2: Fill Out the Top of the Card Looking at your scorecard, you'll see rows for names:

  • "Player/Attester Name" (top row): Write the name of the player whose card you're holding

  • "Scorer Name" (bottom row): Write YOUR name

Wow, talk about checks and balances—you're both scorer AND player!

Step 3: Keep Score During the Round After each hole, write down your player's score (strokes and putts) in their rows. They'll tell you their numbers verbally. If something seems off, kindly ask them to review their strokes.

Yes, it's hard to keep your own score AND someone else's (and let's be honest, who wants that awkward conversation?!), but it's important to get scores right. Incorrect scores may not affect your standing, but it could mean someone else loses because you didn't catch an error.

Step 4: Add It All Up At the end of your round, total up your player's score, including putts, and confirm it with them. Match? Great! Different? Review hole by hole until you agree.

Step 5: Sign and Date This is crucial! Sign and date the card on the "Scorer" line. Make sure your player signs the "Attester" line too. Unsigned cards are disqualified—don't let all that work go to waste!

Step 6: Turn It In

  • Wednesday players: Drop your card in the box at the course (usually on a table outside)

  • Thursday players: Give it to the golf receptionist in the LOLGC envelope

  • New Members (establishment rounds, non-tournament months): Leave with the LOPGC receptionist

Remember: we're all in this together, keeping the game fair and friendly!
